(The President, Mohammad Hasan, plays a pivotal role in leading association and acts as the head of the executive committee since June 2024. In this capacity, he is responsible for setting the strategic direction, overseeing operations, and ensuring that the association meets its goals and objectives. Prior to this role, he served as Vice President of Finance where he gained valuable experience in managing financial resources and understanding the needs of the organization. His leadership style fosters collaboration and innovation, driving the association toward success in its initiatives.)

Dear Fellow Mates,

Here are some mentions of our completed initiatives:
-
We hosted a UM-EGSA Summer BBQ and Games at Saint Vital Park, a Winter Indoor Games Night at IQs, and a welcoming Meet & Greet event for new graduate students at St. John’s College.
-
We organized our Annual General Meeting to facilitate open dialogue and feedback from members and proudly launched the Brown Bag Seminar to provide a platform to present and discuss economic researches.
-
We also invested in the enhancement of the facilities in the graduate students office with new equipment and supplies, advocated for improvements to the graduate workspace, and submitted a request for a high-performance computer to support academic work (the number of high configured research PC is five now in the computer lab).
-
Our book collection for graduate students was expanded, a whiteboard and bulletin board were installed to improve internal communication, and we revived the official UM-EGSA email address (egsa@umanitoba.ca) for more professional and consistent correspondence.
-
Additionally, we proudly launched the UM-EGSA website at www.um-egsa.ca, one of the most challenging yet rewarding initiatives of our term. The website is now active and accessible to all of us. We believe this platform will serve as a milestone toward building a more sustainable, transparent, and engaged graduate student association for years to come.
-
We also took the first steps toward building LinkedIn based a strong alumni network, laying the groundwork for long-term connection and mentorship between past and present graduate students.
-
We have also started collaborating with UofM Economic Society (undergrad association) for the publication of monthly research reports. Our representative will act as senior economist and reviewer in that platform.
-
Our association is now officially recognized by both the administration (See the UofM official website and go to bottom of the page of Department of Economics) and UMGSA central association.
I would like to sincerely thank the incredible executive team I had the privilege of working with this past year — Emmanuel, Tanjima, Fikky, and Femi. Each of you brought dedication, creativity, and strength to our shared responsibilities, and I am truly grateful for your efforts. Emmanuel was like an umbrella for our association. A special thanks to Tanjima for serving as the Chief Returning Officer (CRO) during the recent UM-EGSA election and ensuring a transparent and smooth process. I want to recognize Fikky, who not only served as our treasurer but also upheld fairness and transparency in every aspect. Her discipline in recording transactions promptly and making financial reports readily available set a high benchmark for future executive teams. I also want to extend my appreciation to Femi, our councilor, for his outstanding contributions to student engagement initiatives, which played a crucial role in energizing the student community throughout the year.
I also want to thank all former UM-EGSA presidents, with special mention of Thuhid and Gift. Though both are junior to me in age, their prudence served as guiding lights in my leadership journey. A heartfelt honour and gratitude go to three silent contributors who supported and guided me throughout our term — Iqbal Bhai, Atish Da, and Aslam Bhai. Their steady presence, wise counsel, and silent encouragement often came at just the right moments, and I am deeply thankful for that. Finally, their efforts ensured a level of accountability that reflected the values we stood for.
To the newly elected team — Rashed, Iacob, Jarin, Shamim, Victoria, and Alec — we are proud of you and confident in your abilities. Thank you for stepping forward to serve. May your tenure be fulfilling, impactful, and even more successful.
Serving as your EGSA President has been one of my most meaningful experiences at the University of Manitoba. Thank you once again for the trust and the opportunity to contribute to our shared academic community. I wish you all continued success in your research, work, and life ahead. Let's say,
"Time marches on, memories stay, tutoring silently the rest of the days."
Lastly, please don't forget to check our website for the pictures of our beautiful memories together:
Warm regards,

Mohammad Hasan, President, UM-EGSA 2024-25
